Topic: Medal of Honor
We had a talk from Medal of Honor Recipient, Mike Rose. He explained how the six core values of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society tie in with their lives. These include Courage, Sacrifice, Commitment, Integrity, Citizenship, and Patriotism. Students will be reflecting on the meaning of these values in class.
We discuss what makes a good leader and what characteristics leaders have. 5th Grade read The Cay and know that Phillip's boat was torpedoed by the Germans (WWII). They learned to infer and predict what will happen as we discuss the characters.
The 5th Grade GATE students will head to Dauphin Island Sea Lab April 14-17, 2020 to learn more about the rich diversity in our ocean. This group of students entered college in August 2019.
