Mini recap of the 2016-17 year:
We had an exciting year. I accompanied many 5th Grade students on the trip to Tremont in December. We learned to work together and students became more independent as they spent time away from home in the woods. I love the theme, "No Child Left Inside," and would love to do more outside research next year, despite our digital 1:1 status.
In March the 5th Grade GATE students, RUN-TV crew, and Greenpower Team headed to Dauphin Island Sea Lab to study our ocean.
My students in all grades learned about the ocean and their effect upon it and how it affects them. A culminating activity was our Seven Seas Celebration in March where students shared what they learned with the community. Special thanks go to our PTA members, parents, and NOAA for their support.
I also started the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's Character Development program. Students learned about Integrity, Commitment, Patriotism, Citizenship, Courage, and Sacrifice. I plan to continue with the character values as part of my program during the 2017-18 school year.
