A Beautiful Classroom
Thanks to Trevor from Across the Pond, and a host of volunteers, we have a working pond and waterfall. The Herp Habitat, pictured above, is home to three box turtles. Everyone enjoys seeing them walk around enjoying their home when it's warm out. They swim in their pond regularly. We have lots to do and could use some adult volunteers to monitor students, especially on "Club Days." About 25 students come out to the garden to work. It almost always rains so we are motivated to get things done quickly. Come visit our garden/classroom to see what is growing on. Milkweed plants are waiting for Monarch Butterflies to lay their eggs. We also need to recognize the donation of gravel for our paths from Vulcan.
Many animals use our outdoor classroom. Winnie is our resident Red-Tailed Hawk. Last year she had a broken wing and had to go to rehab. After her release, she has used the water sources in the garden for her baths. We also have a chipmunk who swims in our ponds, a variety of birds and insects, and a bullfrog or two. The garden is a wonderful place to observe nature up close.
